WWW: Trust No One!

Who else is excited by the return of the X-Files? For a decade, its clever plots delighted me because you never knew what was real, what was true.

Truth and trust are huge elements in my W-I-P PRINCE OF HONOR. Very little is what it seems to be, from intentions to actions, as demonstrated in today’s sniblet:
Her heat didn’t rest beside him, the sheet cold.

Empty.

He tried to sit up but something jerked him down, that something a metal bracelet about his wrist, shackling him to the bedframe. His hazy mind recoiled in surprise. How could she have gotten to the key where it laid a room away in the pocket of his coat?

Alert and now wary, Turow let his senses sharpen before opening his eyes to a sight that scarred him, heart and soul. Sylvia stood on the other side of their shabby room, dressed in her castoff clothes, her lovely, kiss-bruised lips narrowed, her expression carefully masked. She met his gaze directly, hers betraying nothing.

Because they were not alone.

What do you think? Is Sylvia only trying to save her own skin or is she trying to protection Turow, too? Hmmm . . .

Have a great week. I hope Mercury Retrograde is dealing more kindly to you than me. My laptop no longer will do Windows updates and it takes 40 minutes to get past the Failure to Initialize message to get it to start up. Then half the time my files won’t open. Sigh. Time to go shopping!

  1. Yay, I loved the X-Files! Though now I don't have a TV. :-(

I have a feeling Turow is in for a difficult time!

    1. No TV!? I guess if I didn't have one, I'd get a lot more done. Laptops have You Tube. Just saying. . .

  5. Bummer! Both for Turow and your computer woes. I had to take my hard drive in to be replaced. Had no idea Mercury was to blame. Great snippet.

  6. Oh my! Very tense scene. Not a good way to wake up. I wonder what will be? I can't help but to hope she has a plan to save him.

  10. So maybe she wasn't the one who shackled him.
