IWSG: If I Could Turn Back Time

2017 is almost a memory. That got me thinking about our OPTIONAL IWSG Question for December: “As you look back on 2017, with all its successes and failures, if you could backtrack, what would you do differently?” Should I have slept in that extra hour? Passed on the suggestion to order pizza? Climbed all the way into the bushes to rescue all three tiny kittens instead of just the one I could reach? What would I do if I could turn back time?

Even if I’d passed on that pizza, I couldn’t wear that sailor hat as well as Cher, so I’ll narrow it down to just writing to pick that one do-over. If I could go back, I would keep the promise I made myself at the beginning of the year after the frantic release of PRINCE OF POWER to allow more time between completing the third book in my “House of Terriot” series and scheduling my release date, so I wouldn’t be so rushed. Man, oh man, even that extra month I gave myself was gone in a blink, leaving me scrambling at the last second with half the things I’d planned to accomplish for my October release PRINCE OF FOOLS undone. Memo to self: Have solid PR plan and edited version of PRINCE OF DREAMS in hand before setting that date next year so I can complete my shapeshifter series with a whole lot less anxiety. I’ll let you know how that turns out in 2018!

As for the kitties, Mama Cat whisked that little guy’s two siblings away before we could catch them and find them a safe home, but Keanu, now 8-months old, has settled in with my two older female cats and my sister’s nervous dog, and is totally enjoying the holidays.

What would you do over if you could turn back time?

Wishing everyone a happy wrap up to 2017 and a joyous new 2018!!

  1. I'd be pressing a Do-Over Button for another shot at better time management! I've got to get a handle on it in 2018! Looking forward to more of those naughty princes, Nancy! And I have to say that Keanu is one lucky kitty.

  2. Not many people can pull off that look Cher had. LOL I think only Cher can.

Time management is a hard one for me. I try, but I'm not very organized. This year's one book release was way more planned out than my first one, so at least that means I'm learning a little.

Good luck with your upcoming releases!

  3. The mention of you rescuing that kitten reminded me of how I rescued all 4 baby kittens, that are now my four pain-in-the-butt grown cats. lol I wouldn't have been able to rest until I had them all, but with strays it can be tough. And the kitties you didn't get had a good Mama. The Mama of my four cats had left them, but she left them after she taught them to come onto my porch for food. So, I think she knew I'd look out for them.

  4. 2017 has been a great year, family-wise and career-wise. I did pub 2 novels but wished I hadn't frittered away a lot of time and written more on my sci-fi romance. The more time I have, the more I waste. Shame on me. LOL Good luck with your plans for 2018.

  5. Hello and nice to meet you. I'm new to IWSG. Your creative answer to this month's question made me crack a huge smile. I'll try to follow your lead after this and be creative as well as factual in my answers. It makes for more enjoyable reading.

So, I am also a romance writer! Viva romance.

    Best wishes for 2018.

  6. I think there must be a special place in heaven for compassionate people who rescue feral kitties of all ages. Keanu looks like a happy and well-adjusted kitty! Congratulations on your writing accomplishments! All the best in December with writing and with celebrating the holidays with your loved ones!
