I love smart men and women playing dangerous cat and mouse games. But which one is which? Scientist Stacy Kimball is looking for a cure for the blood disease that will eventually kill her, as it did her mother. Gorgeous, reclusive philanthropist Louis Redman could provide the answer. All she needs is a sample of his rare blood type. What Stacy doesn’t know, is they share the same driving interest. He wants her blood, too. Here’s a peek at MIDNIGHT REDEEMER.
Vampire.
Nonsense.
Then, Stacy made herself look beyond the logical. In this case, the impossible could be the only possible answer.
But that led to another question.
How did one go about tracking down a supposed vampire to ask for a sample of his blood?
She had a name: Louis Redman. Redman’s influence on the Powers That Be was like a seducing drug. No one wanted to risk alienating his affection. Well, she wasn’t interested in his affection. She was interested in his blood chemistry.
I loved writing this book because it’s got a bit of everything I like to read: A paranormal love story, a Who Done It mystery, Frankenscience ethics, sneaky government ops, and a return of characters and complications I adored from previous books (You don’t have to have read them to appreciate them here). And a setting that’s almost another character – Seattle! All this for only $0.99 through the end of the month!
Besides this fantastic sale, I’m celebrating the finish of my second edit of my WIP, An Untarnished Hero, which is a return to my contemporary romantic suspense roots and another of my favorite settings, West Texas. My current conundrum is whether to use my own name or return to my Dana Ransom pen name to tie the Texas setting into the planned reissue of a series of historical western romances I’ve gotten the rights back to. To self-pub or go back to a traditional publisher? Things to brood over when the world outside looks like this . . .
I plan to spend the rest of this wintery day visiting your excerpts before our roof comes down – literally, tomorrow. With leaks galore all over the place, we’re hoping to have new shingles to keep the weather out and our heat in. If the roofers can get through a foot of snow . . .

She doesn't think she'll be interested in his affections, just his blood. Very interesting since he's the vampire.
ReplyDeleteBoth of them are rather . . . blood thirsty - if you'll pardon the pun - in the beginning but the attraction surprises takes them by surprise.
DeleteYou had me at smart men and women playing dangerous cat and mouse games. Looking forward to more.
ReplyDeleteMore to follow next Sunday for the last day of the sale.
DeletePlease Nancy... May I have some more? (holding up a bowl, hoping it will magically fill with more words)
ReplyDeleteDon't worry . . . I won't let you go hungry!
DeleteShe's definitely a woman with a mission. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteAn important mission others seek to turn to their own advantage . . .
DeleteI like the idea of being interested in his blood chemistry. It sounds like a scientist.
ReplyDeleteIt won't be the only things she's interested in for long . . . though it would be the safer bet.
DeleteFun twist, with her seeking his blood. Wonder what he'll make of that?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the roof!
Thanks, Alexis! This sudden thaw has us rallying the tarps in anticipation.
DeleteLove the hook. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sale. Just bought it. I do enjoy your stories. I think I'm starting to build my retirement cache of books. Might be a year or two until I do, but it REALLY gives me something to look forward to. :-)
I LOVE retirement! Though I can't say I have that much time to write! Hmmm. Enjoy the read!!

ReplyDeleteSomehow I have the feeling his affections will come to matter to her, a LOT. I really liked the 'voice' here, as far as her thoughts. Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jean!!
DeleteShe's interest in the blood chemistry. I'm curious to know why. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteTo use it to develop a cure for her own blood disease (which doesn't come with the complicated dietary concerns his does!).
DeleteThis plot sounds like a winner! A really great twist that her blood disease is tied to a vampire's blood. I think I'm going to have to go grab this one! Great snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenna! Happy Reading!
DeleteBoth are interested in each others blood but for different reasons. I like the way you've set this up.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elaine! I love the twists and turns of their goals and developing relationship.
DeleteA new roof in the middle of a winter storm . . . You're very brave. So are your roofers.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen them yet. I'm just hoping the ceiling holds until they get here . . . especially in my office!
DeleteSure hope the roofers have taken care of your roof by now. I don't think she'll have a problem finding him. I'll bet he finds her first. Great snippet.
