Let's start off with a continuation of last week's emotional scene from PRINCE OF FOOLS . . . then, to the Big Announcement!
Things are bad all over for poor Rico as he tries to convince Amber to believe in him, the way no one else ever has before. He's finally made the commitment in his own heart and mind that she and her daughter are his future. But she seems less certain it's a road they can travel together, not with all the ugly stuff she has packed in her past baggage. Last week's excerpt ended with Rico claiming, "Ammy, you don't have to carry whatever this is alone.”
“I may not be smart, but I can lift heavy things. Trust me to help you carry whatever this is. Please, please, let me help you."
A sob escaped, "I can't."
"Yes, you can. I'm right here, where I'll always be for you and Evie, and nothing, nothing will change that. I'm your guy. I will fight for you, I'll protect you, you know I will. If it's something you can't talk about just yet, I'll wait until you can. Just don't push me away."
So, what do you think she's going to do?? The rest of the scene will play out next week.

This is the kind of speech that should win over most women's hearts . . . but of course you may not want things to be that easy for him. And congratulations on the pre-release.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ed!! And nothing's ever THAT easy!
DeleteWooHoo!Pre-ordering!
ReplyDeleteThanks, LL!!
DeleteI could feel his passion, his earnest feeling. Wonderful, Nancy.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Charmaine!!
DeleteI love his determination to win her trust and love.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jessica! That, he is!
DeleteWow! If that doesn't convince her I don't know what will. Great snippet. Full of passion. Love Tina Turner, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachel! It's all about Tina!
Delete*dreamy eyes at Rico* Love this emotional snippet!
ReplyDeleteDreamy eyes, indeed!
DeleteOh, the angst! How can she say not say yes?
ReplyDeleteWeeeeeell . . . . Maybe yes, maybe no.
Delete"I'm your guy." That sentence figured prominently in one of my favorite episodes of Bones. It works well here, too.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'll have to start binge watching Bones!
DeleteCongrtulations on the pre-release. What a touching snippet, how could any girl refuse such a heartfelt declaration?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hywela!! But, she's not just any girl.
DeleteDarn it, Nancy, you made him tug on my heartstrings with that speech. I know you want to torture your MCs but, sheesh, give the guy a break. :)
ReplyDeleteI know. Poor baby!
DeleteExcellent excerpt, very heart felt declaration on his part but I hope he's truly ready to hear whatever she has to share. Best wishes on the pre-order phase!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jean!! So does he!
DeleteI understand why she has a hard time trusting--how can you really know if someone can handle your secret, no matter what they promise? But she just has to take a leap of faith. He seems solid.
ReplyDeleteJump, girl! Jump!
DeleteOoh! Squee! Congrats! Great snippet today too.
