With PRINCE OF DREAMS just a week and a day from its October 2 release (hyperventilating!), I’m scrambling to get everything ready (Does that ever really happen?). In the meantime, I’m continuing with last week’s scene of budding hopeful (hopeless?) romance between my hero and heroine. He’s just confessed that his expected plan to return to his family home has changed, letting her believe she’s the reason. But is that the truth or just her now broken dream?
Whoa! That’s some reaction! Next week’s snippet reveals her interpretation of his “grand plan” . . . and it’s not good. But then when has romance ever run smoothly?
Before Phe could have a complete melt down, Kip added, “I need more than that because my family won’t just let me go. Right now, I’m the youngest in a long line, who happens to be good with numbers, and I don’t want to be labeled because of my family name and reputation.” He struck a nerve with her there. “I have to become more to earn their respect to prove I can make it on my own, and not just as one in a pack.” As her brows puckered at that odd phrase, he hurried on, “That’s where I hope you’ll help me.”
Caution bred from too many disappointments, Ophelia leaned back, pulling away from his earnest gaze to stare into the dark brew warming her hands as she asked, “Help you how?”
“I need a reason to stay in New Orleans while I explore other, more attractive options.”
As much as she longed to, Ophelia didn’t dare look up at him, knowing how easily he could sway her by showing just a bit more of that toothy smile when she asked, “And that reason would be?”
“You offered to help me find a job, that’d be a great first step, maybe something where we could see more of each other.”
Dammit!
Why wait? Pre-order. Consider it a pre-Halloween goodie with more cardio than calorie!
While waiting for PoD to go live, my characters continue their tour with goodies and giveaways galore in my PRINCE OF DREAMS SPOOKTACULAR TOUR, celebrating not only their story, but all the great things about the month of October. Follow along the stops for chances to win awesome prizes, including my $10 Amazon gift card.

After my last day job work day on Wednesday (sniffle!), I’ll be heading toward Lake Michigan and a four day (!) writers retreat. What a great place to start on . . . RISE BY MOONLIGHT, the return of Max Savoie.

I love me some options, glad this character does too.#8sunday
ReplyDeleteToo bad they're not on the same page here . . . he's opening his up and she's narrowing hers to one unpleasant one.
DeleteHmm! Trouble afoot here. You have me wondering what's coming next. I think she's in trouble with him.
ReplyDeleteShe's thinking he's interested in something other than her company.
DeleteThat is a curious reaction. Was she hoping he'd be more forthcoming about his feelings? Or is he being too reasonable for her to easily reject?
ReplyDeleteShe's thinking those feelings come with a paycheck . . .
DeleteHmmm, I'm of two minds about the way he asked her to help him find a plausible reason for staying in New Orleans. I'd hear little alarm bells going off if I were her, I think. But either way, it definitely makes the reader want to keep reading and see what happens! Great snippet...
ReplyDeleteShe's hearing Big Ben chiming!
DeleteCurious to if she is going to help him and what is going to happen.
ReplyDeleteMe, too!
DeleteI love how different her reaction is than he'd like. I also enjoyed how you describe the book as "more cardio than calorie!"
ReplyDeleteUnless you're eating snacks while you read! Thanks, Ed!
DeleteInteresting snippet.I'm curious to know if she'll help him out and also to know more about his motives.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karen. His motives are . . . complicated.
DeleteHer last reaction make me wonder if she thinks he's maybe moving too fast for her. If that "we could see more of each other" means a lot more of each other. Maybe he needs to slow down for her. Awesome scene!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jenna! I'm thinking she doesn't mind him moving fast but thinks he's moving in the opposite direction from where she thought he was going.
Deletehmm, I'm not sure if he's moving too fast for her, or not fast enough! Great snippet - and what a coincidence that the release date is also my birthday! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Upcoming B-Day, Lyn!!! We'll celebrate together!
DeleteI'm hearing a bit of "hey, let me use you." I wonder if she's hearing that, too.
ReplyDeleteI think she's hearing it LOUD and clear!
DeleteHe is still very secretive. No matter how tempting he may be, she must decide whether she should trust him.
ReplyDeleteIf that still small voice has suddenly got a back-bone and is jumping up and down in your conscience - LISTEN to IT!
ReplyDeleteI feel your anxiety. I'm planning a PNR duet release, book one in November and book two in December. I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew. Best of luck!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she will end up helping him, sounds great
ReplyDeleteShocking learning and I seize the opportunity to bestow this kind of information to my mates and desire they like it they why I do..

First of all I want to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you don’t mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.I have had a tough time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out.I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes tend to be lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints?
